David Ray Goodpaster

David Ray Goodpaster, 59, of West Liberty, KY, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019 at University of Kentucky hospital in Lexington, KY after a brief illness. David was preceded in death by his two brothers Bobby Joe Goodpaster and Manford Paul Goodpaster, mother Lillian Mays Goodpaster, and father Elba Goodpaster.

He is survived by his brother Leonard Thomas Goodpaster and wife Carolyn of West Liberty, KY, brother Danny Lee Goodpaster and wife Rosalie of Indianapolis, IN, sister Glenda Sue Chaney and husband Larry of Hwy 205, KY, brother Jerry Allen Goodpaster and wife Debra of West Liberty, KY, sister Elva Jane (Janie) Fugate of Korea, KY, brother Elba Goodpaster, Jr. and wife Tina of West Liberty, KY, one son Joshua David Goodpaster of West Liberty, KY, one grandson Andrew Goodpaster, nieces Stacey, Missy, Tina, Megan, and Melinda Jane, nephews Tim, Shannon, James Allen, Glendon Paul, Nicolas, and Travis, family and special friends Terry Williams, Robbie Nickell, Roy Brown, Meggan Sloan and a host of others who loved him.

David was the youngest child, born on April 17, 1960 to Lillian Mays and Elba Goodpaster. He retired from Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex after 20 years of working as a correctional officer. In his retirement, he enjoyed the simple life of visiting with friends and family. David was never without a smile and a joke, able to lift anyone's spirits. He never met a stranger, and was the best hearted man you could know, always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed all manner of animals, especially his dogs and cats.

The funeral services will be Friday 1:00pm, September 27, 2019 at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel with words of appreciations spoken by Robbie Nickell and T.J. Johnson. Burial in Goodpaster Cemetery, Hwy 705,West Liberty, KY. Visitation will be 11:00am Friday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Glendon Paul Goodpaster, Travis Goodpaster, Nicholas Goodpaster, James Allen Goodpaster, Shannon Chaney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Williams, Roy Brown, Robbie Nickell, and TJ Johnson.
