Mary Irene (Potter) Whitt

April 6, 1933 ~ January 10, 2019 (age 85)

Mary Irene Potter Whitt of West Liberty, KY, passed away Thursday January 10, 2019 at  Paul B. Hall Hospital, Paintsville, KY at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 4 days. She was born on April 6, 1933 at West Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Elmer & Celina Smith Potter. She was united in marriage to Dillard Whitt. This union was blessed with four children, Dillard Jr, Farrell, Arvin and Edward Kelly. She was retired from the Shoe Factory. She was a Christian and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great -grandmother. Her hobbies included driving her Chevelle, painting, gardening, watching NASCAR, canning, working in her flowers,playing bingo, watching basketball, and most of all spending time with her family. She was a very direct person and if she said something, she meant it. When Alexis came along, she was her whole world and her pride and joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dillard Whitt; infant son, Edward Kelly Whitt; one brother, Edward Potter and one sister Bonnie Willoughby. 

She is survived by three sons, Dillard Whitt Jr, Farrell and Penelope Whitt, and Arvin Whitt and Jenell Caskey all of West Liberty, KY. Three granddaughters, Alexandria & Claude Johnson, Jessica Renee Whitt & Joe Gibbs, and Kinsey Danielle Whitt; two great-granddaughters; Carolina Michelle Johnson and Alexis Michaela Johnson. Two sisters; Clara Francis of Mansfield, Ohio. Lila Williams of West Liberty, KY. Host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday January 14, 2019 at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel with Bro. Rick Pelfrey and Bro. David Ison officiating. Burial in the Potter Cemetery, West Liberty, KY. Visitation will be 6:30 pm Sunday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY. Pallbearers will be Emanuel Holbrook, Chris Adams, Dwayne Mullins, Rick Blair, Randy Williams, Darrin Adams, Joe Gibbs and Claude Johnson.
