 Betty Jean Johnston Goodpaster, age 90, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky passed away on 08-31-2020 at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Betty was born September 28, 1929 in West Liberty, Kentucky to the late William Woodson and Flora Mae Stacy Johnston. She attended grade and high school at the old Morgan County High School in West Liberty. On August 22, 1946, she was married to the late Samuel Curtis Goodpaster. They divorced after 20 years of marriage.

She was a cook for many years in West Liberty at Don’s, Gary and J. C. Barker’s, Daisy and Jeff Johnson’s, John’s, Frontier House and Lykins’ Steak House before she had to quit due to her arthritis. She loved to cook and bake for her children and friends. She gave her heart to the Lord while watching WLJC at Beattyville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son Larry, a son-in-law Phillip Keeton, a daughter-in-law Teresa Goodpaster, two grandsons Shawn Dennis and Aaron Burnette, two brothers Elmer Johnston of Whitesburg, KY and Evert Johnston of Caney, KY, two sisters Marie Patrick and Louise Hill of West Liberty, KY and three special friends Hester Gevedon, Joyce Risner and Edna Cantrell.

She is survived by five daughters: Diana and Gary Norman of New Albany, Indiana, Sharon Goodpaster of Grassy Creek, KY, Lois and Neal Stinson of Grayson, KY, Kathy and Danny Fannin of Wrigley, KY, and Carolyn Goodpaster of West Liberty, KY. , three sons: Stephen and Chrystal Goodpaster of Mt. Sterling, KY, Jeffrey and Louise Goodpaster of West Liberty, KY and Rocky Lykins of Lancaster, KY. Her surviving grandchildren are: Jennifer Norman and Melissa Gordon of Indiana, Kevin and Amanda Dennis of Morehead, KY, Kara Beth and Logan Bales of Frankfort, KY, Michael and Kellie Keeton of West Liberty, KY, Shelley and Bubba (Peyton) Loudermilk of Wrigley, KY, Chris Hammond and Cassie of Gainesville, FL, Jessica Wright of West Liberty, KY, Bianca and Billy Dulin of Wrigley, KY, Brett Goodpaster and Samantha of Nancy, KY, Allison Goodpaster and Austin Wilson of Mt. Sterling, KY, Adam and Sagan Goodpaster of Lexington, KY, Chandra Goodpaster and Ryan of Lexington, KY, Cameron Goodpaster of West Liberty, KY, and Grayson Lykins of Lancaster, KY. Also surviving are her brother Bill Johnston of West Liberty and her 18 great grandchildren along with a host of extended family and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

 

COVID-19 regulations will be followed as set forth by Governor Beshear and the CDC. The family request that visitors respect their desire to keep everyone safe by practicing social distancing guidelines and to wear a face covering of some sort.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 04, 2020 at Herald, Stewart and Halsey Chapel with Rev. James Allen and Bro. Jimmy Tharp officiating. Burial will follow at the West Liberty Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. Friday until the service hour at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY. Pallbearers: Adam Goodpaster, Cameron Goodpaster, Brett Goodpaster, Michael Keeton, Bubba (Peyton) Loudermilk and Matt Hopkins.
