Charlie Perry was born at his family’s homestead in Dehart, KY, on January 25, 1955, to Charles Perry and Letha Fannin Perry. Charlie worked for the West Liberty Police Department. He later served as chief of police for several years while also working as an EMT and school bus driver. After retiring from the West Liberty Police Department, Charlie went on to work as a heavy equipment operator for several companies, including Rifle Coal, Hilltop Mining, and the Morgan County Road Department.
Charlie had many hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed getting together to play cards with friends, as well as spending time with his family. His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Inistene Smith, Charlene Fugett, and Cleda Peyton; and two brothers, Billy Wayne Perry and Glen Lee Perry.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirl Smith Perry; his daughter, Pamela Keeton (Jerry); and his sons, Chase Perry (Michelle) and Phillip Perry (Megan). He is also survived by one sister, Brenda Fannin; one brother, Clinton Perry (Linda Stacy); eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a member of Grace Baptist Church and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He passed away on April 12, 2026, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel, with Bro. Mike Lindon and speaker Doug Hutchinson delivering messages of comfort for the family. Burial will follow in the Charles H. Perry Cemetery, Old Hwy 172, West Liberty, KY.
Visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY.
Active pallbearers are Trace Mackay, Benjamin Perry, Clinton Perry, Calvin Perry, Brett Smith, Jerry Keeton, Darrell Harvey, and Matt Bishop.
Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Perry, Chase Perry, Seth Perry, Grayson Perry, Darrin Riley, Hershel Stevens, Johnny Cantrell, Rod Adams, and Ernie Adams.
