Cleta Rose Gullett, 86, departed this life on Monday, August 10, 2020, to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born August 9, 1934, at Helechawa, Kentucky. Preceding her in death was her beloved mother, Helen Clay Hall. Cleta was a 1952 graduate of Hazel Green Academy, and a 1957 graduate of Eastern Kentucky State College, and her love for teaching spanned three decades. She spoke fondly of her first teaching assignment in a one-room schoolhouse in Helechawa, where she was qualified to teach grades 1-8 after having earned only 6 college hours. With barefoot children on her lap and books which were shared, Cleta influenced many young students in the community in a positive way. After the construction of a new county school, Cleta continued teaching at Red River Valley Elementary, and she retired from the Wolfe County School System in 1985.
Cleta was a member of the Hazel Green Christian Church and lived her life with purpose. She was a woman of integrity, a loyal friend, a loving mother, and she was always among the first to help those in need.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sandra Edwards of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lisa Maynard (David) of Danville, Kentucky, and one son, David Gullett (Genell) of Winchester, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Ashley Bolger, Laurel Wyatt, Brittany Schulz and Macy Maynard, and two great-grandchildren, Genevieve Bolger, Emilia Bolger and much anticipated Baby Wyatt.
Deepest appreciation is extended to Cleta’s lifetime friend, Emma Jean Beasley, for her devotion, love, and kindness through their many years together.
