Gloria Day Obituary

Gloria Jean (Vance) Day passed away at her home where she was surrounded by her family on July 27th 2022. Gloria Jean was born February 20th 1928 in Blackey, KY. She was the daughter of the late Clay Turner Vance and Goldie Hayes Vance.

Gloria was the Devoted mother of: Alice Faye Terry and the late Everett Boyd Manley of West Liberty, KY. Gloria Jean and Alice together were known as the Golden Girls around town. Maurice Edward Day (Joe) wife Melinda Day of West Liberty, KY. Randall Clay Terry wife Rita Terry of Paris, KY. CW Day of West Liberty, KY. Glen Eugene Day wife Lucy Arlene Callahan Day of Morehead, KY. Loving grandmother of: Ashley Dawn Vanover (Kody Vanover), Tabitha Manley Roland (Glenn Roland) Leatha McKenzie Helwig (Stephen Blair Helwig) Amanda Heather Day, Brent Eugene Day, Shannon Terry (Jack Patterson). Cherished great grandmother of : Jeana & James Music, Jordan & Candice Helton, Troy Wagoner/Patterson, Melody Patterson & daughter Jenna, Jade Castle, Allie Utchek, Austin Utchek, Mason Utchek, Sailor Grace, Kayden Daniel Vanover, Alianna Dawn Vanover, Tanner & Hannah McKenzie, Layla Adkins & Tyler Adkins. Gloria Jean also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great great grandchildren that she loved so so much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay Turner Vance and Goldie Hayes Vance, and her first husband, Ralph Terry (10/1970), and her second husband Walter Day (1981). Her siblings, Clay turner Vance (Blanch), Helen Virginia Mullins (Crockett), Harry Dean Vance (Betty), one great-great-grandson James Waylon Music.

Gloria Jean worked and devoted 20 years as a Nurses at the Appalachian Regional Hospital here in West Liberty where her patients and co-workers became family to her. ARH Was a special place to her. Gloria Jean look forward to her evening worship with sister Margaret on WLJC a show that she had supported for many years. 

Gloria Jean would only watch Western movies because she said they were clean and made sense. Any movie with Indians were her favorite. You often would see her grinning from ear to ear or hear her cackle out loud. Dementia had take her short term memory so She watch them over and over again.   Psalm 23 was her favorite passage of the bible. She dreamed of it in a dream. Found the whole verse In the bible then went to a revival and was saved at the age of 18. Gloria Jean belonged to The Freewill Baptist Church at the Junction of Wheelwright, KY where she worship and sung as a young Christian.

 Gloria Jean would want everyone to know that she loved them dearly & that they need to get ready for the Lord because he is returning soon to take his children home. Gloria Jean would want you to know, “I can’t come back to you, but you can come to join me in Heaven forever.” We as a family give the Lord Thanks for sharing this amazing woman with us for 94 years. Her legacy will live on forever in her children, grandchildren & all the lives she touched with her kindness & love. 

Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Saturday, July 30,2022 at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel with Bro .Brent Davis officiating. Burial in Vance Fork Cemetery, Vance Fork, KY. Visitation starts 11;30am Saturday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY.

Pallbearers: Brent Day, Brent Davis, Noah T. Davis, Jeremiah P. Davis, Troy Patterson, Tanner McKenzie, Jordan Helton, James Music, Glenn Roland. Honorable Pallbearers: Wyatt Music, Dawson Adkins, Austin Utchek, Mason Utchek, Kayden Vanover, Sawyer Gibson, Steve Helwig, Elliott McKenzie, Larry Benton, Andrew Jones and our Superman Above that is an Angel with mamaw Waylon Music.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Gloria Jean Day honor to Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses with remaining funds to be donated to the upkeep of Vance’s Cemetery.
