Harold Rowland Obituary

Harold B. Rowland, 78, passed away May 21, 2020 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Dingus, Kentucky on December 30, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry B. and Nora Mae (Webb) Rowland, his sister Jean (Selvin) Smith, brothers Harry B. (Sonny) Rowland, Ralph Rowland, Herbert Rowland and granddaughter Nicole Diviak.

He is survived by his wife Opal (Williams), daughters Kim (Ken) Baker, and Michel Smith.,and grandchildren Jessica (William) Holley, Heather (Brandon) Chapman and Gretchen Clutter, sisters Goldie Phelps, and Bartola Conley.

Papaw Harold also leaves behind his cherished nine great-grandchildren: Julian, Alyssa, Kaylee, Madeline, Myah, Kennedy, Willow, Piper and Nora. He was fortunate to have special relationships with his extended family that also survive him: Arlis Williams Jr. and Phyllis Schaffer, Arnie Williams and Cubie and Don Eldridge, and many nieces and nephews. It’s not possible to list special friends as he considered all of his friends special.

Harold was blessed with a full life – a loving family and life-long friends. He loved sprint car racing and owned the 8K sprint car, traveling, camping, spending time with his great-grandchildren and telling stories. His hobby was staying connected with his friends by either phone or unexpectedly knocking on their door. He attended Hazel Green Academy from 1956-1957, he was a Private in the Army and served in France from 1959-1962, he was owner of HBR Construction Company located in Beavercreek, Ohio from 1974-2004, and a past member of DARF (Dayton Auto Race Fans). He will be missed.

A memorial gathering will be held May 27, 2020 at Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio from 5-8 p.m. Social distancing guidelines and masks are encouraged. Burial will take place on May 29, 2020 in West Liberty, Kentucky.

COVID-19 regulations will be followed as set forth by Governor Beshear and the CDC.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 11a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 pm in Herald & Stewart & Halsey chapel and graveside service at the Rowland Family Cemetery, Peddler Gap Road, West Liberty, KY, with Pastor Mike Frisby officiating. Military honor will be conducted by the Morgan County DAV Chapter # 132 at the graveside. Pallbearers: Kenneth Baker, William Holley, Brandon Chapman, Julian Cruz, Raleigh Jenkins, Robbie Bradley.
