Linda Gail Hicks Allen, of White Oak, Kentucky, passed away on January 21, 2024 at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 4 days.
Linda was born on August 17, 1948, in Martin, Ky., to the late Ecil and Zannie Little Hicks. When she was eight years old, Linda’s mother passed away and she then lived with her special ‘parents’-Aunt and Uncle Euka and Estill Hicks in McDowell , Kentucky while her father worked as a coal miner.
Linda attended Alice Lloyd College for two years, traveling across the country with the Appalachia Choir. She then transferred to Morehead State University, graduating with a Rank I in Elementary and Special Education. Upon graduation, she moved to Covington, Kentucky as a 4th grade teacher with the Covington City School District. She began her teaching career in Morgan County as a 5th grade teacher and later as a Special Education teacher. Her love of teaching and of the children whom she worked with was evident in her caring and respect she had for her students and which they returned. She retired from teaching in 1999, having taught 29 years.
During her time at Morehead, Linda was to meet her future husband, Danny Bill Allen. In July of 1972, Linda and Danny were married and moved to White Oak, Kentucky where she readily became an important and vital member of the White Oak community that she grew to love and called home.
Linda and Danny were an involved, caring couple in White Oak. She was an active member of the White Oak Christian Church. She readily gave of her time and energy to church and community events. She was a Sunday School teacher and was a prominent worker in the church funnel cake booth at the Sorghum Festival, as well as other activities in White Oak.
Linda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family was her priority and as long as her health permitted, she was at every event and activity of her children and grandchildren. Known as ‘Ga’ by her grandchildren, she relished being with her family. Her sense of humor and her ability to have fun in the smallest of activities made her a treasure for her family and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel William Allen (Danny Bill); her parents, Ecil and Zannie Little Hicks; her brother, Estill Eugene Hicks; Aunt and Uncle Euka and Estill Hicks; stepmother, Grace Williams Hicks; Mother and Father-in-law, Hallard and Loretta Allen and nephew Issac Fugate.

She is also survived by her Sisters of the Heart – Glenda Banks, Carolyn Gullett, Carole Hoskins-Price, Tanna Crouch , Carolyn Bishop and Heather Collinsworth, with whom she shared her sense of adventure, family joys and love of life.
Her final days were met with compassion and caring by her caregivers Melinda Day, Mary Fannin, Diane Shelton and Darlene Roe., and Lizzie, her faithful, loving pet who was with her throughout her illness and whose antics gave her such pleasure and company.
