Richard Scott 'Sonny' Lykins, age 87, of Dayton, OH, and formerly of Malone, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his home. Born December 27, 1938, in Malone, KY, he is the son of the late Aaron and Bernice DeBorde Lykins. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Malone, KY. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959 and worked for the GM Motors factory.
Preceded in death by his parents and wife, Diana Jo Potter Lykins, and his siblings, David Edwin Lykins, Donnie Jay Lykins, Joyce Ann Lykins Stevens, and Judy Lykins Williams.
Surviving are one son, Richard Cohen Lykins; three grandchildren, Aaron Thomas Lykins, Hannah Corinne Lykins, and Emily Josephine Lykins, all from Dayton, OH; and siblings Marcus Steven Lykins of Dayton, OH, and Janet Lykins Compton of Paris, KY. Host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel, with Elder Rick Howard sharing words of comfort with the family and friends. Interment in the DeBorde Cemetery, Malone, KY. Visitation, 6 pm, Monday, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY.
Pallbearers are Aaron Lykins, Kent Lykins, Matthew Compton, Greg Potter, Joe Warren, and Richard Cohen Lykins.
