Sharon Cox Obituary

Sharon Cox, age seventy-four of Little Caney Rd, departed this life at her residence after a battle with cancer on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Sharon was born on October 15, 1949, in Ashland, KY to William Salyer and Marjorie May (Salyer). She was a graduate of Flat Gap High School and attended Mayo Technical School and later Morehead State University where she achieved a degree in nursing.

Sharon was united in marriage to the one true love of her life Ollie Cox until his death in 2004. To this union they were blessed with two children David (Crystal) Cox of Carlisle, KY and  Amy Clark and Brian Scalf of Crockett, Ky. Two grandchildren Chandra Morgan Cox of Ann Arbor Michigan and Whitley Clark of Crockett, Ky. Several Step grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by both her father and mother. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ollie, a sister-in-law Kay Salyer of Columbus, OH, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Buel & Goldie Cox. She is survived by her two children and grandchildren along with a sister Marsha (William) Hannavan of Yorktown, VA. Two nephews Richard (Anita) Kelly of Crockett, KY. Eric (Christy) Cox of Chesapeake, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon was a Registered Nurse where she worked at Morgan County ARH where she admitted the first patient when the hospital opened and over the years wore many hats, but her joy and dedication to caring for those in need never wavered. She worked for 36 years and finally hung up her nursing cap back in 2009.

She spent her glory days working in her flowers and gardening. She worked on genealogy and helped a lot of people research their family history, which she enjoyed a lot. She loved to nap with her fur babies, and they loved her back. She gave her heart to the lord when she was younger, and a few years back she rededicated her life and became a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the Elkfork chapter of the Eastern Star.

She was a proud grandmother to her first grandchild Morgan and then her Whitley, they were what she lived for. The last few weeks s of her life she fought to stay here with us. She fought with dignity and grace and a strength that only comes from the lord, but he was ready for her. In the moment she slipped away and into his kingdom we realized the legacy of such a life and the love in it and how blessed we were to have known and loved her.
