Sylvia Smith Burgett Obituary

Sylvia Lea Sparks Smith Burgett passed away on November 24,2020 at the home of her daughter, Pam Vest in West Liberty, KY. She was born November 28,1929 in Morgan County to her parents Missouri Alice Kelly Sparks and Fernando Milton Sparks.She was married at the of 16 of Ora Smith and was widowed at 39. From this marriage came 12 children. Later in life she remarried to Kenneth Burgett until his passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Missouri and Milt, husbands, Ora and Kenneth, four children, Michael Smith, Fairley Smith, Teresa Goodpaster, and Gary Smith, daughter-in-law Sandy Smith and five sibling, Annie Ison, Vernie Montgomery, Louella Ferguson, Goldie Caudill and Ova Sparks.

Sylvia is survived by 4 daughters Velma Dulen, Alma Cantrell (Denzil), Pam Vest (Mike), all of West Liberty, and Marcella Arnett (Jonathan) of Somerset; 4 sons Darrell Smith (Brenda),Darris Smith, Drexel Smith (Shara),Dwayne Smith (Twana), and daughter-in-law Delease Smith Brooks all of West Liberty. As well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who all loved her dearly.

Sylvia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young women, served Him earnestly throughout her life, and shared His love with her family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. She was a long time member of Williams-Creek Elkfork Community Church. Sylvia was a homemaker… and make she did. From her heart-felt prayers to her apple stack cake & chicken & dumplings, no one ever felt anything but pure devotion and love from her. She took great pride in her family and they brought her immense joy. She truly was a women who was after God’s own heart and all who have met her, for even a moment, have benefited from it.

Luke: 23:43- And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. Today Sylvia is reaping her rewards of obedience and faithfulness with the Creator. The family would like to give a special thank you to Sylvia’s Bluegrass Care Navigators wonderful care team Janna Land, Lisa McIntosh, Sioux Richerson and Bobbi Dalton. They loved her just like she was their family.

Private graveside services Friday, November 27,2020 at Mary Pack Cemetery, Hwy 437,West Liberty, KY with Bro. Jeffery Montgomery and Bro. Jonathan Arnett officiating. Drive by viewing 12:Noon Friday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY.

Active Pallbearers: Bazie Dulen III, Denzil Cantrell, Derrick Cantrell, Mike Vest, Kenny Thomas, Brett Goodpaster Honorary Pallbearers: Darrell Smith, Darris Smith, Drexel Smith, Dwayne Smith, Jonathan Arnett.

COVID-19 regulations will be followed as set forth by Governor Beshear and the CDC. The family request that visitors respect their desire to keep everyone safe by practicing social distancing guidelines and to wear a face covering of some sort.
