Thomas Oldfield Jr Obituary

Thomas Alden Oldfield Jr passed away April 7 at Hospice Care Plus in Richmond KY. He was born on April 6, 1944 to the late Thomas A. Oldfield Sr, and Lillian Catherine Howard Oldfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Clay.

He is survived by his children, Teresa and William Wilson of Henderson KY, Cathi and James Walters of Owingsville KY, Thomas Oldfield III ( Tanna) of Winchester KY, Celia and Mike Hornback of Sharpsburg KY, and Jeff Oldfield ( Leigh Ann)of Sharpsburg, KY. He is also survived by his three sisters and one brother, Brenda Oldfield- Senninger ( Ralph) Lexington, Pam Meade (Jim Bob), White Oak, Carolyn Oldfield, Georgetown, and John Oldfield III ( Ashley) of White Oak. He is survived by his companion Carolyn Jo Lacy and her daughter Caroline Young (John) and their children Katie and Jim.

And 11 grandchildren, Amy Anderson( Austin), Jacob Barker ( Abby), Lauren Wright ( Nathan), Travis Walters, Luke Wilson ( Michaela), Samuel Barker ( Jacklyn), Alden Oldfield IV, Erin Barker, Amelia Oldfield, Jefferson Oldfield, Kenleigh French, and two great grandchildren, Joseph Ray and Emmalyn Gail Barker. He is also survived by his uncle Frank Oldfield, numerous nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.

Tom was a graduate of Morgan County High School, Class of 1961. As a youth, he was active in 4-H and FFA and held many offices of leadership in these clubs. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. While at UK , he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Scovall Society, UK Livestock Judging Team and was also very active in Christian Student Fellowship, where he met his first wife Rebecca Sandefur, the mother of his children.

He willingly gave his time to his community by serving as an elder and Sunday School teacher for many years at Sugar Grove Christian Church, in Stepstone KY. During his time at Sugar Grove, he went on many mission trips with Workers For Mexico, served as chairman on the Mission committee. Tom also gave back to his community by serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, the Bath County 4-H Council, Cave Run Men’s Fellowship, and was active with his children as a 4-H leader and Scoutmaster. He was a life-time member of the UK Ag Alumni and was recognized as an outstanding alumni member. Tom also served on the Regional Pathways Board, for over 20 years. He was active in the Kentucky and local Beef Cattle Association, was Chairman of the KY Beef Council and received the Bath County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year Award. Tom was a lifetime tobacco and beef cattle farmer and was also retired from the KY Department of Agriculture.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Tom’s memory to the following: Workers for Mexico Mission, PO Box 400, Grayson, KY 41143, Hospice Care Plus, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond KY, 40475, or the White Oak Christian Church, 9375 HWY 460 E, West Liberty KY 41472

Pallbearers will be Jacob Barker, Travis Walters, Luke Wilson, Samuel Barker, Alden Oldfield, Jefferson Oldfield, Caleb Demus, Andrew Oldfield, Danny Nester, and Thomas Haney.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 14,2023 from 5-8pm, at the Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY. The funeral will be on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel with visitation from 11 until service time. The service will be conducted by ministers, Francis Nash, Sugar Grove Christian Church and Jamie Brunk, West Liberty United Methodist Church.
